If you’re like us, you’ve probably found yourselves staring at your closet lately, wondering when you’re going to stop putting off switching over your clothes from the airy linens of summertime to the cozy knits of cooler weather.

However, you brides-to-be with upcoming engagement shoots on the calendar may have already strung your entire wardrobe around the room trying to figure out what on earth you’re going to wear in them.

The dropping temperatures and early sunsets can make planning for those shoots a little complicated. We’ve seen more than a few couples who weren’t quite dressed for the weather, and had to work to look relaxed and comfortable despite the goosebumps.

We put together a list of musts for those chilly sessions that will help you look and feel incredible so you can enjoy the special moments with your main squeeze.

1. Fleece-lined Tights

If you haven’t invested in a pair of these (or 12), jump on the glorious bandwagon. They’re just as streamlined as your non-fleecy pair, but so much more cozy. Those cute dresses you were afraid would be too cold? Back in the game. If you’re set on jeans, shimmy them up over the tights. Win/win.

2. Fur

Pick up any magazine or spend five seconds on Pinterest and you’ll see that fur is having a major moment right now. Available everywhere from trendy boutiques to Forever 21 to Target, you’ll be able to find a style to fit your budget. Three birds, meet your nemesis, one stone.

3. Chunky Knits

’Tis the season to be cozy. Oversized sweaters, boyfriend cardigans, infinity scarves, knee-high boot socks, the list goes on and on, and what a fabulous list it is. Burrow down into those cold weather fabrics and just try and wipe the smile off your face.

4. Outerwear

Just because it’s a photoshoot doesn’t mean you can’t be comfy and casual, and we’re not just talking about that killer coat in your closet. Throw on your favorite warm hat or mittens, even a great pair of wellies. Comfort items will relax and loosen you up while keeping away the chill, allowing you and your fiancé’s chemistry to shine through.

5. Layer the RIGHT Way

Ok, ok. For some of you, your layering game is on point, but here’s a revelation for those of you riding the struggle bus: Add your layers under, not over. That cardigan over a sweater over a tank routine might be cute in theory, but can leave you looking a bit like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Avoid the puff with sleek thermal layers like Uniqlo’s Heat Tech line, or you can find plenty of alternatives at any athletic apparel or department store.

6. Embrace the Environment

You wouldn’t wear your mittens on a beach shoot, so why wear a slinky sundress when the leaves are changing? Stick with a vibe that matches your surroundings. Wrap up in blankets, bring hot coffee, maybe even light a campfire. If you feel out of place while taking the photos, chances are you’ll look out of place, too.

7. Get Close

Now we’re talking. The whole reason you’re doing this is because you’re crazy in love, right? So show it! Well, not all of it. The hot summer months can almost make it feel like a chore in the sweltering sun. Take advantage of the cold and snuggle up with your turtledove.

What about you, dear reader? What do you need on set for your frosty photo sesh? Tissues? Handwarmers? Let us know!
