This summer, make sure your flowers capture the essence of summer by picking floral arrangements that feature in-season flowers. Bonus: you’ll save some money by picking these blooms over others that might be harder to find this time of year.

Use zinnias in your outdoor wedding and you may attract hummingbirds and butterflies, both of which are drawn to the colorful blooms. Available in yellow, orange, pink, red and even green, this common garden plant can be elevated when included in a bouquet. Zinnias are in season from June to September.

For a cheery spring and summertime vibe, go with the classic white daisy. Daisies are in season during summer and early fall. Need a little more variety? Try a gerbera daisy instead. if you want color and impact, try using dahlias in your arrangements. These bodacious flowers come in white, yellow, orange, pink, and purple (really, in nearly every color except for blue). Dahilias in darker hues make a statement, while the same flowers in paler hues exude lightness and grace. Dahlias range in size from as small as 2 inches up to nearly a foot long. They should be readily available in summer and early fall.

Cornflower

Make a flower your “something blue” by incorporating cornflowers into your bouquet. Cornflowers are famous for their vivid violet-blue hue. They symbolize young men in love, which makes them a good choice for boutonnieres for the men in your wedding. They also come in white and pink, which are less common color choices. Cornflowers are in season during summer and early fall.

Once you've picked your favorite summer flower, talk to a florist about the best way to include it in your arrangements and bouquets!
