Basilia Oseguera & Santiago Gonzalez
July 8, 2017 • Little Rock
St. Edwards Catholic Church & The Little Rock Marriott

It was at UAMS medical school orientation in August 2016, that Basi Oseguera, a Hot Springs native, and Santi Gonzalez, a fifth degree black belt from Paraguay, first caught sight of each other. And it was love at first sight. The couple got to know each other in class, and by Thanksgiving, the kismet couple solidified their relationship with a ring in front of both families at La Hacienda in Hot Springs. Having both come from families who gave up everything for their children, they bonded quickly and inspired each other in their common work ethic, upbringing, cultural influence and love.

The Inspiration

Basi wanted “traditional elegance with a clean, modern twist.” With guests coming from South America, Mexico, Rome and across the United States, it was important to Basi and Santi that the reception venue reflect their personalities.

With the help of Centrina Washington and her team at Eminent Planning, Basi’s vision came to life. The 9-foot trees surrounding the dance floor, dramatic centerpieces and a show-stopping, three-tiered hanging floral chandelier—inspired by another wedding Basi had seen in Mexico—truly wowed their guests.

How They Customized

Music to Our Ears
First Dances

“Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”
by Aerosmith

“Todo Cambio”
by Camila

From the catering and cake to the DJ and a choreographed dance surprise, every bit of the wedding was personal. Basi had always wanted her aunt Soledad to be the one to make her wedding cake. The finished product was a beautiful creation infused with lemon zest, blueberry tart marmalade, a unique Mexican postre and a sweet cream cheese frosting.

Basi’s family knows a thing or two about Mexican food—they own La Hacienda, Cotija's and Casa Real restaurants across the state—so everyone pitched in to help prepare the food for the reception.

While DJ Ivan G, a family friend who previously performed at a family wedding and quinceanera, was rocking the reception, Santi surprised Basi with choreographed martial arts that included flips, swords and kicks. Likewise, Basi had a surprise for Santi. Since Santi’s grandparents were unable to travel in from South America for the wedding, she surprised him with pre-recorded videos of their messages for the couple on their special day.
