Holly Grove natives Leah Ligon and Kevin Endsley have a history together dating back to the first grade. They were “boyfriend and girlfriend” in middle school, but Leah broke it off a year later “with the idea of finding something bigger and better,” she says. “Little did I know I already had the best.”

The two got back together in high school, and after years of dating, Kevin popped the question on Christmas Eve in 2011 at the home of the bride’s parents. “He told me he had to blindfold me and take me to show me my present, and that it was too big to wrap,” Leah recalls. She opened her eyes to see the dock on the pond in their backyard aglow with the light of more than 200 candles, and a question that would change their lives forever. “It was picture perfect.”

BRIDE’S INSPIRATION

Drawing from a shabby-chic theme, the couple incorporated antiques throughout: doors served as backdrops, green porcelain lights hung from doors were sourced from an early 20th-century cotton gin, an old washtub was turned into a chandelier, 19th-century wood was used to build the dessert bar and an old railroad cart served as a display table.

HOW THEY CUSTOMIZED

Locally sourced honey and birdseed made for wedding favors, the couple made their own woodsy cake topper and beans and wheat used in the wedding décor came from the groom’s farm. Family heirlooms made several appearances, including a theme inspired by the groom’s dad’s 1965 Chevy pickup and the father of the bride’s 1951 GMC truck, which also served as transportation to the reception. Also in line with the truck motif, a vintage pickup photo booth station was set up for guests.
