Cake (mostly ANY flavor) is my favorite dessert, so it's not a surprise to any of my friends and family that I'm looking forward to having a beautiful cake at our wedding reception.

I've taken a few pictures of details that I like and combined them to give my baker an idea of the style and look I want. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted and after a few changes, I've picked out a cake that truly reflects my personality. In case you're wondering, my future hubby is getting a groom's cake to reflect his personality, too! ;)

If you're stuck on what type of cake to go for, keep the following tips in mind!

  • First of all, find a baker.
  • Then, decide a budget and stick to it. Cakes can get extremely expensive, so if you do not want to spend a whole lot of money, talk to your baker about the budget you'd like to stick with.
  • Figure out the overall style that you want (contemporary, simple, tend, etc).
  • Count up the guest list and see how many servings you need, this will also determine the number of tiers you'll have.
  • Decide if you want any other colors besides the traditional white cake.
  • Pick the shape of the tiers (round, square, mixed).
  • Do you want any other details? Shapes? Monograms?
  • Pick your flavors (and fillings, if you so desire).
  • Set up a time for your cake to be delivered, and how it's going to be displayed.
  • Don't forget to have someone box up a piece (or two) for you and your groom to eat, if you don't get a chance to eat one at the reception!
