Brothers Todd and Brian Rudisill started DJing at UofA parties and pep rallies in the early '90s. Next thing they knew they were celebrating their 20th year in the wedding business! We caught up with the brothers' Fayetteville-based Groove Productions on why they love weddings and what sets them apart from other wedding DJs.
What sets your business apart from the rest in Arkansas?
Two brothers. One team.
We have seen so many great DJs dilute their brand by branching out and hiring other DJs to work for them … and it is just a matter of time before we start to hear issues with quality. Could we make more money by doing the same? Sure! But we prefer quality over quantity. We take pride in the fact that we are a self-owned, family business, and we insist on delivering the most professional and memorable experience for each and every one of our brides. We're professional marketers working with Fortune 500 companies during the day, and are able to bring that same level of professionalism to all of our brides.
The music should entertain the guest, not us. Some DJs love the spotlight and often turn into "performers" at the wedding. We like to play the best possible music that will inspire everyone in the room to get up and dance, and keep our announcements very brief -- just enough to keep the room informed on what is happening next. There's only one spotlight at our weddings, and it's on the bride and groom.
Sinatra or Marvin Gaye?
Flip a coin. Really have to have a little of both.
What is your favorite thing about working with brides/on weddings?
The one-on-one meetings we have with the bride, her mom and the groom. Finding out all the little things that would make their reception special and the new friendships that are born.
Most memorable wedding moment?
Former Razorback quarterback Casey Dick's wedding at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers. Dinner was on one side and we were on the other side of a giant curtain. Guests had no idea we were there. Toward the end of dinner, we started playing the first song and the curtain was slowly pulled back. Casey and Felicia were there dancing in the middle of a giant white dance floor. The crowd was blown away and we were, too. Gave us chill bumps. (see that moment for yourself here!)
