After dating for more than a year, Patrick Hum of Conway took his girlfriend, Lauren Compton — also of Conway — out to dinner on one of the hottest days in July. They dined in a private room, which unfortunately had no air conditioning, and Lauren kept wondering why Patrick wouldn’t take off his coat. It turns out, Patrick had something up his sleeve. “It turns out that he had the engagement ring in his jacket pocket and was so worried about it falling out and ruining the surprise he suffered through it until desert when he finally asked me to be his wife,” she says.
BRIDE’S INSPIRATION
After choosing the Cathedral of St. Andrew and the Capital Hotel for the wedding and reception, Lauren knew her venues called for an opulent and glamorous décor theme. To achieve it, she used pearls and crystal strand accents in the flower arrangements, her belt, shoes, garter and bridal cake. She decided on a scheme of deep fuchsia, raspberry and plum, along with touches of metallic to compliment the gold leafing of the Capital Hotel. Tipton & Hurst also provided purple uplighting to heighten the lavish mood.
HOW THEY CUSTOMIZED
Lauren and Patrick hired a pedicab driver to take them from the church to the reception site. For party favors, they gave out drink koozies with their names, wedding date and skull and crossbones that read “till death do we part.” It was a little nod to Halloween (Lauren’s favorite holiday) which was just around the corner. And for the groom’s cake, Lauren gave Patrick a life-size surprise. Instead of the traditional chocolate cake he was expecting, she ordered a custom, made-to-scale replica of a Yeti cooler, complete with sugar beer bottles, ice, a bass fish and lures.
