Megan McClelland & Austin Burks
April 30, 2016
Pratt Place Inn and Barn, Fayetteville

While attending the University of Arkansas, Little Rock native Megan McClelland gave Austin Burks of Springfield, Missouri a chance. The two went on a date to Mexico Viejo, one of Megan’s favorites. After that, they continued to date for almost four years, the last two of those being spent in different cities while Megan finished school.

Every year, Austin’s family goes to Florida around December and Megan started going along with the family. During family pictures on the beach, Austin’s mom told Megan to walk towards the ocean so the back of her dress could be photographed. When she turned around, Austin was on one knee asking her to marry him.

The Inspiration

Megan wanted a timeless yet effortless look that made Pratt Place Barn feel warm and elegant. She called it “rustelegance.” For table linens, she used several different so that each table looked a little different than the one next to it. The couple went with used gold sequin linens, plain soft gold, blush rosette and velvet runners with a diamond sequin pattern to make the space really fun. The up and down lighting highlighted all of the different patterns, and the colors transformed Pratt Place Barn into something magical.

How They Customized

One of Megan’s favorite personalized details, is that the belt on her dress had opals sewn on, which is Austin’s birthstone. Megan says she was more excited to show him the belt and tell him what it had on it than her dress.

The couple also gave a nod to their first date with their choice of food for their wedding day. Tacos 4 Life catered their wedding, which was perfect for this Mexican-food-loving couple. Plus, for every meal they purchased for the wedding, a meal went to a child in Africa.

Throughout the whole wedding process, Megan was on the fence about hiring a videographer. Looking back, she says that was the best decision of the wedding. The two have the full video, but haven’t watched it yet. They agreed to have a Tacos 4 Life, eat-the-top-layer-of-our-cake and watch-our-wedding-video date on their first wedding anniversary.
