There's a new wedding venue in Fort Smith and we're totally smitten. The Bakery District is a new modern wedding space in downtown Fort Smith with a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces capable of accommodating both large and small weddings.

The venue has plenty of history, too. The building was built in 1921 and was home to the Shipley Baking Company for over 75 years. The Shipley family recognized the need to expand their production from just breads, so they invited women to the work force to include their knowledge of preparing cakes and pies. The company eventually included the manufacturing of fresh and frozen breads, rolls, cakes, pies and other bakery goods.

Today, the building is owned by KMW Properties. The space was given a thoughtful makeover including natural maple wood floors, brick and mortar walls and diverse spaces, while still maintaining the building's historic character. Outside, the eye-catching silow were designed and painted by Hilda Palafox as part of the 2019 Unexpected Fort Smith line-up.

The venue offers a variety of spaces for you to tie the knot and celebrate after. The Collection room is the largest single indoor space that The Bakery District offers. With over 8,000 square feet, this room can accommodate up to 550 people. The original brick walls provide a nearly blank slate for decoration options and glass block windows and glass garage doors allow the natural light to shine.

The Maple room space features original maple wood flooring and over 3,000 square feet accommodating up to 203 people. The room has a central focus of four columns surrounding the 1” rise of a concrete floor, perfect for the 360° viewing of nuptials. This room has its own separate entrance or can be easily combined with the Collection room for a foyer entrance to your wedding location.

The Cooler Room features original brick floor and walls. The room holds up to 49 people in its 867 square foot space. This space includes two elegant natural edge wood tables with chairs, lounge chairs and benches for extra seating surrounded by greenery with a living plant wall and fig trees. Although this space does not adjoin the Collection or Maple rooms, it can be utilized as a smaller gathering spot for your wedding day events.

The Bakery District's outdoor spaces are commonly referred to as The Patio, with over 5,900 square feet. It includes covered and uncovered concrete space that can accommodate up to 394 people. Ammenities include a fire pit area with comfortable seating, potential for a stage, multiple photo back drops, lounge seating as well as beer garden-style seating and sound system.  Updates include multiple charging locations, large ceiling fans and a bocce ball court.
