KATE EMERY & NELSON HERINGER
May 22, 2021 / Highland House and Edwards Commons at Lyon College, Batesville

Kate and Nelson both grew up together in Batesville. They met sometime during and down the line, they fell in love. They got engaged in April 2019, right after Kate’s 25th birthday. Nelson told Kate he was planning a big birthday party for her and when Kate arrived at the party, Nelson greeted her with flowers, got down on one knee and popped the question. Everyone they loved was there to celebrate with them.

Kate and Nelson had mailed out over 500 invitations right before COVID-19 hit. They faced the difficult decision of canceling their big day and were married on the porch of Curran Hall in Little Rock with just their parents and ministers present. They made plans to have a Wedding Blessing ceremony and reception on their anniversary and, after scaling down their guest list to 75 people, they were ready to iron out all the details.

THE INSPIRATION

Kate wanted a soft, ethereal wedding and was inspired by watercolor painted florals. This pattern was used on the invitations, ceremony programs and at the reception. Hobart Print Studio helped Kate create the stationery of her dreams using these watercolor florals. Their spring color palette included sky blue, pink and touches of yellow and green.

The Wedding Blessing ceremony took place at Highland House in Batesville, which had been in Nelson’s family for generations before it was acquired by Lyon College. Guests were seated on the lawn while the wedding party stood on the porch, framed by a large floral arrangement above the glass doors. Dale and the team at Silks-A-Bloom made the day a fairy tale with their use of hydrangeas, peonies and roses.

“The flowers were over-the-top beautiful. I was simply blown away by the beauty and the bounty.”

HOW THEY CUSTOMIZED

In line with the ethereal theme, Kate’s ivory wedding dress featured an applique lace bodice and soft tulle skirt. She also wore her mother’s diamond earrings and her grandmother’s silver and diamond ring. Her bridesmaids wore sky blue gowns with spring floral details at the bottom, fitting perfectly into Kate’s watercolor dream wedding.

The reception was held at Edwards Commons at Lyon College and featured a white dance floor with Kate and Nelson’s initials centered the room. The table decor included hydrangeas, crystal candelabras and blue and white Chinoiserie vases. Their wedding cake was adorned with fresh flowers, and each layer had a different flavor — lemon, almond and vanilla. For their first dance, the couple chose “Hard to Concentrate” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, one of their favorite bands.
