ANTHONY HAWKINS & DRAKE RODRIGUEZ

April 16, 2022 | The Edgemont House | Sara Toki Photography

Anthony and Drake met online in March 2013 and have been inseparable ever since. Drake proposed to Anthony on May 7, 2018 while on vacation in Paris, France. The proposal took place at sunset on Pint Alexandre III overlooking the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. Swoon!

Q & A

Q: What were your florals inspired by?

Simplistic elegance,” Drake said.

“We were very lucky that the Edgemont house was already perfectly landscaped and decorated for the season,” Anthony said. “We wanted white flowers with greenery to add to what was already at the venue and not clash or take away from.”

Q: What were your wedding colors?

“Navy, glittery gold, and an accent color of butterscotch,” Drake said. “We felt that navy and gold would be easy colors to work with regardless of what season we got married in.”

“We actually saw a butterscotch-colored dress when I got fitted for my tuxedo at the Bridal Cottage and fell in love with it,” Anthony said. “It was so warm but added a pop of color that we loved.”

Q: Did you hire a DJ or Band?

“We made our own playlist,” Drake said. “It was fun picking songs together that we loved and knew our friends and family would enjoy too. On the day of, we designated someone in our wedding party to be in control of the music during the ceremony and the first dance. I was able to control the music for the reception from my phone just using the playlist I had already made.”

Q: What’s your secret to wedding planning success?

“Patience, trust your instincts and remind yourself that at the end of the day, your wedding is for you and as long as you’re happy, that is all that matters,” Drake said.

Q: Most worth-it wedding splurge?

“Our photographer was our splurge,” they said. “Sara Toki is so incredibly talented and has a way of making you feel so comfortable in front of the camera.”

Q: How did you customize your wedding day?

“We made sure that our dogs were a part of our ceremony and had a tuxedo and tutu,” Drake said.

“We had a s’mores bar which was amazing,” Anthony said. “The Edgemont House has a book about the revival of the property and we actually used this as our guest book. It was so unique that our guest book was specific for our venue.”

Q: What was something you knew for sure you wanted to do?

“We knew that we wanted to have margaritas as a signature cocktail,” Anthony said. “I’m not being biased but Drake really does make the best margaritas and we got to use his recipe.”

Q: What wedding day detail did guests rave about?

“The wedding cake and smores bar,” they said. “And the venue, it truly is stunning and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.”

COOL CAKE

Anthony and Drake opted for making their own wedding cake out of styrofoam, spackle and spray paint. Though challenging, it turned out to be beautiful and they served sheet cake to their guests!

TWIST ON TRADITIONS

Anthony and Drake ditched a traditional ceremony and instead selected a script to be read along with their vows. They didn’t exchange rings because they’d been wearing their wedding bands for so long.
