A cozy night of pizza, s’mores and board games brought Monticello’s Sydney Selman (one of our "best bridals of 2014" winners) and Springdale’s Ryan Smith together after being set up on a blind date. The two hit it off immediately, talking until all hours of the night. Ryan even met her parents the very next day at church. As their relationship progressed, it wasn’t hugely abnormal for Sydney to receive flowers at work, so when Ryan sent her a bouquet one day, she didn’t think too much of it. The next thing she knew, she was on a surprise flight to San Francisco. He assured her this wasn’t an engagement trip, but his anxious behavior had Sydney suspicious. That night, on a trip around the bay on a sailboat at sunset, Ryan proposed. Already elated, Sydney was later surprised to find her parents and best friends waiting at their dinner reservations; a perfect end to a perfect day.

The Inspiration

Sydney’s goal from the beginning was to be able to look back at her wedding day in 20 years and still think it looked just as beautiful as it did before, without cringing at outdated trends. Her love for timeless elegance included crystal chandeliers and Southern white hydrangeas. The wedding party in neutrals with black and gold décor kept with the soft, classic and fun atmosphere of renowned P. Allen Smith’s picturesque estate.

The Details

The touches Sydney and Ryan added to their big day were all personal tributes to elements that hold special meaning in their lives. The couple has a soft spot for mixed CDs, so they put together a unique playlist and gave CDs as gifts to all of their guests. They also had a sweet moment in the ceremony when their fathers prayed over them, and Sydney attached her dad’s wedding band to her bouquet as something old and borrowed.
