You might call Little Rock native Avery Ricks a bit of a sleeping beauty. She hit it off with Daniel Bingham, originally from Sherwood, when their roommates at the University of Arkansas set them up. After graduation, Daniel went to medical school at UAMS in Little Rock and Avery taught classes in Fayetteville while getting her masters in French literature.
One Friday afternoon, Avery came home exhausted and was deep into a three-hour nap when she woke up to missed calls from Daniel. He had planned on surprising her on her doorstep with a ring, which he finally got the chance to do. The two then had a quiet dinner at their favorite local restaurant and spent the evening calling family and friends to tell them the good news.
The Inspiration
The Bingham wedding was quite the romantic soirée, stemming from Avery’s love of all things French. She pulled inspiration from the Gardens of Versailles and opted for light pinks and lots of greenery with chinoiserie vases and ginger jars—all painting a classic, feminine scene for family and friends.
How They Customized
The French motif continued into almost every aspect of the day, including using a copy of “The French Dog” by photographer Rachael Hale as a guest book, a calligraphy tablecloth that read “oui oui” and sabering a bottle of champagne (with a French-made saber, of course). But when it came to food, the couple made sure to celebrate their Southern roots. Guests enjoyed a menu complete with shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes—a deliciously perfect juxtaposition to the surrounding French garden atmosphere.
