Sydney Wood & James Cartwright
July 23, 2016
The Barn at Sleepy Hollow, Clarksville

Sydney Wood set eyes on James Cartwright at a flag football game that he was refereeing. Sydney of Clarksville later asked the Mountain View native to referee her upcoming flag football fundraiser, which he politely declined. A few weeks later, the two crossed paths again and began their journey as a couple.

Some people hate surprises, but Sydney loved this one. Her best friend called her one day to ask if Sydney and James would do a couple’s photoshoot meant to promote a wedding venue. Sydney excitedly said yes and the plan was set in motion. On the day of, Sydney and James got glammed up and headed out to the venue to work with photographer, Erin Wilson. Erin asked for a few surprise shots of one of the two coming up behind each other. Sydney waited awhile and didn’t feel James approaching. Instead, she heard, “Sydney, turn around.” There was James on one knee with a ring in his hand.

The Inspiration

Sydney’s latest obsession is navy and gold. She knew she wanted an elegant touch to the theme, because she had fallen in love with bridesmaid dresses that were anything but subtle. Even after all the gold and navy from the wedding, she is still obsessed with the color combination.

The Barn at Sleepy Hollow was the exact place where James pulled off the best surprise Sydney had ever been given, so it just made sense that the barn should also be the place where they say “I do.”

How They Customized

Sydney was lucky to have her sorority sister design her wedding cake and her best friend act as her florist and wedding coordinator, making everything all the more meaningful.

The component on which we splurged the most was the food catering. "I had a very tight budget and envisioned us catering on our own with the amount of support we had," said Sydney. "Closer to the wedding, the decision was made to hire a caterer. The presentation and taste of the food went beyond my expectation."

She went out and made sure that her presentation went hand in hand with my theme and color scheme. In the end, it was worth every penny.
