St. Vincent native Kala Burgener and Hot Springs native Art Slaton are tying the knot on June 2, 2018, at Holy Souls Church. The two hit it off while they were both medical students at UAMS on the labor and delivery rotation.

The Love Story

Fast forward about a year and a half later. Art found out he had matched into residency and would be staying in Little Rock. It was the weekend before graduation and both Kala and Art's families were both going to be in town to celebrate.

"I was on a night float rotation and had been working all night and had just got home. I walked in, and as usual was greeted by my dog Ember who was wearing a balloon and dressed in a shirt saying 'Will you marry me?' Art steps around the corner and drops down on one knee. There was nothing over-the-top or grandiose about the event, but it was a very beautiful, simple, and a special moment shared between just the two of us (and Ember, of course!) and truly reflects who we are as a couple. He had planned it out so we could announce it and celebrate with the rest of our family and friends the following day, and it was absolutley perfect."

Congrats, you two!
