Lauren Jackson of Arkadelphia and Stephen Raines of Camden first laid eyes on each other more than four years ago at Ouachita Baptist University. After Lauren asked Stephen to a special dance at school – where they square-danced the night away – the two fell in love. “I had never met a man with such a genuine and kind heart, and I knew really quickly that he was the one,” she says. It was close to two-and-half years later when the couple traveled with Stephen’s family to Destin, Fla., a place Lauren was convinced would be the spot of their engagement. But, with no signs of anything big coming her way, she began to re-think her prediction. Stephen, however, did a great job of keeping things a secret, because as it turned out, Destin was the site of the engagement. With a little help from his family, he caught Lauren by complete surprise. “Of course, I said ‘yes’ and could not wait to spend the rest of my life with him,” Lauren says.
BRIDE'S INSPIRATION
The couple wanted the wedding to be dreamy and elegant. With this is mind, the décor was a combination of beautiful floral arrangements and crystal candelabras in a color palette centered on Lauren’s favorite—blush. "The perfect combination of pink and peach mixed together,” she says.
HOW THEY CUSTOMIZED
Lauren’s papaw passed away several years ago, so she wanted to honor him by attaching his handkerchief to her bouquet. “It was so special to have a little piece of him with me,” she says.
And bringing a little sparkle to the décor were the many vintage diamond brooches incorporated throughout — everything from the centerpieces and her bouquet to the unity candle, picture frames and wedding cake were adorned with bridal bling.
ALL SMILES
When it came to the food, Stephen’s groom’s cake stirred up quite a laugh at the celebration. It was in the shape of a mouth that was smiling with pearly white teeth—in honor of him attending dental school in the fall.
