It’s a sad day for the the fashion world, friends.

On Monday, Oct. 20, fashion designer Oscar de la Renta passed away at 82 after battling cancer for nearly ten years.

His style was a force to be reckoned with, whether on the red carpet or on the bridal runway, but he was always the perfect gentleman. He had a dedication to classic lines with modern flair, but was more interested in making sure you saw the girl first, and then her dress.

He had a long list of celebrity clients, including George Clooney’s new bride Amal Alamuddin, but he also dressed every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy. His friendship with Bill & Hillary Clinton brought him to Little Rock in 2013 to celebrate the opening of his exhibit, “Oscar de la Renta: American Icon,” at the Clinton Presidential Library, which included many first lady fashions.

We join the rest of the style universe in grieving the loss of a genuine icon and wonderful man. Oscar de la Renta will be greatly missed.
