Remember our Pin it to Win It contest a couple of months ago? Cakemaker extraordinaire and Capital Hotel chef Tandra Watkins gave the winning couple, Katy Tripp and Corey Montgomery, a three-tier custom-designed wedding cake. Tandra sent over the story of how this beautiful cake came to be, as well as some photos from Hollie Henderson Photography. Something tells us it tasted as good as it looked!

Katie, a determined bride-to-be, had her eye on the prize as she rounded up more than 300 friends and family members to vote for her bride-pinning board to win a wedding cake created by ME for her reception!

I was thrilled to be a part of this competition, gifting the winner with the cake of her dreams. Soon after winning, I got a call from Katie, who then brought her lovely mother and maid of honor to the Capital Hotel in Little Rock for a tasting and to go over cake visions for her Hot Springs wedding.

Katie chose a traditional almond cake with a non-traditional pistachio filling. How fun! I love working with a bride that knows her likes and has great taste. We chatted about the décor themes of her wedding and together, it was our goal to create a cake that would reflect Katie and Corey’s colorful country-style theme.

The final product resulted in a three-tier cake with a textured buttercream, topped with vibrant dahlias and zenias, which accented it beautifully. Placed on a fresh cut wood stand, this cake, this bride and this wedding were simply beautiful.
